The documents presented here represent the documentation for the OSF Metadata Application Profile. These should be considered living documents and are subject to change as the OSF is enhanced and adjusted.
The first verion of the application profile was released in April of 2023. An updated version was released in September. Please make sure you are using the most up to date version. Significant revisions are documented in both the application profile and the introduction.
A metadata application profile (MAP) adopts elements from multiple standard metadata schema for a particular use. This application profile represents the metadata that OSF stores about its objects: Projects, Registrations, Preprints, and Files.
The OSF MAP was created using the Dublin Core Tabular Application Profiles specification. Before reviewing the model closely you may want to read the primer describing the specification: https://github.com/dcmi/dctap/blob/main/TAPprimer.md. If you haven’t worked with metadata application profiles or models before, this will provide an introduction to the structure of the OSF MAP.
