Description: This study compared upper airway inflammation (cytokines in tonsils of children with obstructive sleep apnea [OSA] going for elective tonsillectomy; fractional exhaled nitric oxide) and systemic inflammation (serum cytokines) in non-obese children with asthma, with and without OSA, to test the hypotheses that inflammation was greater in children with OSA than those without OSA, and that increased inflammation was associated with poorer asthma control (Childhood Asthma Control Test; spirometry).
