Description: This proposal outlines the development of the Workplace Visibility Index (WVI), a novel framework for understanding how visibility functions as both a source of recognition and a risk factor for psychological harm in modern workplaces. The WVI identifies eight core dimensions of visibility — four positive (e.g., access, inclusion) and four negative (e.g., surveillance, tokenism) — and proposes a new metric for assessing their relationship to employee well-being and workplace conditions. This project aims to develop, validate, and share a psychometrically sound instrument, with future directions including empirical study, consulting applications, and integration into ongoing CPAR and workplace wellness research. This preprint serves as the foundational conceptual proposal; the accompanying theory paper and validation studies will be posted as they develop.
