# Surveys ![Surveys photo by Caroline Bittencourt][1] ## Description During the concert, audience members answered a series of questions before the concert, after each piece of music, and after the concert. The live audience answered using paper surveys that were marked with their unique identifier and their seat number. The livestreaming (i.e. remote or virtual) audience answered questions through the MusicLab App which loaded questions from Nettskjema onto their smartphones and submitted responses to Nettskjema. Survey questions included demographics, previous musical experience, and general experience of the music such as emotions (e.g. feeling moved, absorption, and awe), social connectedness, familiarity, and enjoyment. Paper surveys were delivered with questionnaire booklets. There were separate English and Danish surveys meaning that virtual participants saw a total of 13 surveys in the app. The first survey was survey “0” and used to link physically present participants’ motion data to their unique identifier. ## Data The surveys included: - Pre-concert survey - Demographics, seating chart of personal relations to audience, age, gender, musical expertise, personal relationship to musicians, fan-status, empathic concern - After Beethoven - Kama muta, social connectedness, awe, enjoyment, familiarity, absorption, awareness of body and movement - After Schnittke - Kama muta, social connectedness, awe, enjoyment, familiarity, absorption, awareness of body and movement - After Bach - Experience of visualization, familiarity, awareness of body and movement - After Folk - Kama muta, social connectedness, awe, enjoyment, familiarity, absorption, awareness of body and movement - After Concert survey (ranking, AIMS) Data from paper surveys were transcribed and combined with digital survey responses into a single coded spreadsheet. Comments were translated from Danish to English. When participants selected more than one answer, the average between their two responses was chosen. See the notes in the spreadsheet for more information. There were some mistakes identified in the paper surveys after data collection. See the data management plan for details. Data is consented for open sharing. It contains no personal information.
