<h2>Notes on Experiment Tasks</h2> <p>We have posted the e-prime 2.0 scripts for both Experiment 1 and Experiment 2 reported in the paper. All of the scripts require a set of image files for the task to run, but these image files are part of a copyrighted test (Thurstone's perceptual speed) so they are not posted here.</p> <p>The scripts are originally based on a Tower of Hanoi e-prime script created by Paul Groot obtained from <a href="https://step.talkbank.org/scripts-plus/TOHx.zip" rel="nofollow">https://step.talkbank.org/scripts-plus/TOHx.zip</a>.</p> <h3>Experiment 1</h3> <ul> <li>Note that for ease of comprehension, this study is reported as Experiment 1A and 1B in the paper.</li> <li>All participants were run with this .es2 script. In the data, it should be noted that there is an ExperimentVersion column that reports version 1.0.0.95, 1.0.0.96, and 1.0.0.99. This is a version tracked by E-Prime directly with the last set of digits being automatically incremented every time the experiment is compiled into a .ebs2 file. The multiple versions are because 1.0.0.95 was the original .ebs2 version used to collect data. After computer upgrades in the lab, the script was recompiled on the upgraded computers locally resulting in two versions 1.0.0.96 and 1.0.0.99 being used to collect subsequent data on the new computers. Ultimately, the same source code was used to collect all data for this experiemnt.</li> </ul> <h3>Experiment 2</h3> <ul> <li>Four versions of the experiment were used in data collection (3.5, 3.5.1, 3.5.2, and 3.5.3). The experiment versions differ only in code used to print an ancillary .txt file that contained resumption lags to make further analysis easier than using the .edat2 files that e-prime created. Ultimately, these .txt files were not used for analysis. We constructed R scripts to pull out the resumption lags from the .edat2 files. These scripts that extract the resumption lags from the .edat2 output are posted. Therefore the version differences did not affect the experiment or the data used in analysis.</li> </ul>
