Description: When risks are communicated it is important to communicate them as transparent and as understandable as possible to facilitate informed decision making. The communication of uncertainty of risk estimations can contribute to making the communication of disease risks more transparent. However, communicating these uncertainties can influence risk perceptions, worry levels, and perceived credibility of the estimates. Nowadays, risks for many different diseases can be calculated with online risk calculators, but the effects and value of such calculators are not yet well understood. The current study will investigate the effect of communicating personalized (colorectal cancer) risk estimations through online risk calculators in combination with the communication of uncertainty around these estimations, and its effects on risk perceptions and worry. Additionally, this study will also explore whether perceived credibility is a potential mediator in this relationship.
