Description: The linguistic relativity hypothesis posits that the structure of a language shapes the worldview of its speakers, suggesting that language usage influences cognitive processes. The label-feedback hypothesis extends this idea, proposing that language can rapidly modulate nonverbal tasks from top to bottom. This phenomenon is particularly evident in the cognitive object naming process, where language plays a crucial role in facilitating learning and categorization. In this study, our focus will be on the realm of olfaction, aiming to investigate how various types of meaningless verbal labels impact odor categorization learning. Bilingual participants will undergo odor categorization training across four distinct conditions: pseudowords resembling their first language (L1), pseudowords resembling their second language (L2), pseudowords resembling a completely unfamiliar language, and a condition without any pseudowords. This investigation seeks to uncover whether the regulatory influence of verbal labels on olfactory perception extends from the first language (L1) label to the second language (L2) label and the label associated with the "unfamiliar language."
