The middle row illustrates a trial of the No-Cue condition with a 3-item display. In the Pre-Cue condition, a cue (arrow) was shown after the fixation cross and before the onset of the memory display. In the Retro-Cue condition, the cue was shown at the end of the 1-s retention interval, after which a post-cue blank interval of 1 s followed before the onset of the test display. The cue indicated the tested item with 100% certainty.
