Undergraduate students (*N *= 68) were exposed to normative cues related to turning the light off: a posted sign (indicating what ought to be done) and the initial status of the light (signaling what others have done). The descriptive norm cue influenced subsequent energy-saving behavior, but the injunctive norm cue did not.
