Description: Blood transfusion is defined as any transfer of blood or blood components between patients. This is considered a modern and extremely important therapy, due to its effectiveness and clinical benefits (BRASIL, 2014). As it is a complex procedure, it requires specific knowledge from professionals, given the need for specialized care in administration and in identifying acute or late complications (CARNEIRO, 2017). Blood component transfusion is an essential therapy in various clinical situations, however, it is not without risks and complications, among which transfusion reactions stand out (BRASIL, 2014). Even when well indicated, blood transfusion can lead to adverse reactions. A transfusion reaction can be defined as an undesirable effect or response observed in a person, temporally associated with the administration of blood or blood component (BRASIL, 2015).
