Wiki Version:
We examined effects of target and privacy on perceptions of honesty in prejudiced speech. Anonymous posts against individuals were rated as more honest than public posts against groups. These studies demonstrate people may not take anonymous online prejudiced rhetoric seriously, which could foster toxic online environments conducive to incitement of real-world violence against marginalized groups.
