Wiki Version:
This presentation explores how virtual reality (VR) can contribute to envisioning and working toward a more sustainable future. Virtual reality offers unique capabilities that make it an effective tool for fostering sustainable behaviors. Two key mechanisms are highlighted: reducing psychological distance through presence and fostering nature connectedness through embodiment. By immersing users in realistic scenarios, VR enables them to experience potential future environmental outcomes and promotes empathy and understanding of sustainability issues. Examples from recent studies conducted by the presenter will illustrate how these mechanisms have been applied to encourage sustainable behaviors.
