This study proposes to delve into the intricate interplay between trust, reliability, and human interactions with AI technology. Drawing from philosophical discourse on trust, it aims to navigate the complexities of trusting machines, emphasizing contrasting views on trust versus reliability. The research aims to explore the impact of employing trust-based and reliability-based frameworks on tendencies to (i) anthropomorphize AI, (ii) self-reported confidence in using automated technology, and (iii) the assignment of blame to automated systems, specifically within the context of automotive AI, a high-stakes environment. Thus, the study aims to probe into the nuanced dynamics between humans and AI, bridging ethical considerations, cognitive tendencies, and technological advancement, findings which will contribute to developing AI systems that strike a balance between human wellbeing and algorithmic capabilities.
