**Study 2** This study is very similar to Study 1. We have added three new scenarios to the task in this study. *Note* This study was originally run with a different sampling firm. We encountered difficulties with this firm, exhausting their available participant pool. In excess of 70% of participants were failing our attention check so we elected to redo the study with a new firm. The data from this first attempt were used to refine the analysis script and then discarded. The analyses and results are solely from the data from the second participant source. For organization, data from this second source are labeled as Study 2B. **Method** Participants will again imagine a scenario where, as a part of a class activity, they are randomly assigned to a group. At this point, participants will be placed in one of five conditions. After the manipulation, all participants complete the points allocation task from Study 1, allocating points to the Blue and Green groups. 1) No change- Participants are assigned to the Blue group and proceed directly to the allocation task. 2) No change, error- Participants are assigned to the Blue group and encounter a supposed computer error before restarting the task. They are once again assigned to the Blue group. 3) Change from Green to Blue- Participants are assigned to the Green group before encountering an error. Upon restarting the task, they are assigned to the Blue group. 4) Change from Blue to Red- Participants are assigned to the Blue group, encounter the error, and then are assigned to the Red group (a group not involved in the resource allocation task). 5) Change from Red to Blue- Participants are assigned to the Red group, encounter the error, and then are assigned to the Blue group. The various pages in this task can be found [here][1]. **Analysis Plan** As an aggregate measure of in-group favoritism, we will average agreement ratings of the six unequal allocations, reverse scoring the allocations that favor the out-group. We will also compile an average of the three allocations where the ingroup (or past group) is favored and an average of the three allocations where the outgroup is favored. Our primary test will be three One-Way ANOVAs, comparing the responses of the five groups on overall allocation ratings, ratings when the ingroup (or past group) is favored, and ratings when the outgroup is favored. If differences are detected, we will conduct pairwise comparisons between the groups using Tukey's test. For any pairwise differences observed, we will test if the difference is mediated by differences in attitudes toward and identification with the Blue group and Green group. A preliminary analysis script can also be found in Files (Minimal Group Change Study 2B Script). **Data Stopping Rule** These data are being collected using an online sample (GMI Lightspeed) along with data for another project. This other project will collect enough participants to have 1500 who passed an attention check. Information about the attention check can be found in Files. Data collection will cease when 1500 participants pass the attention check. We will only analyze the data from those who pass the attention check. **Additional Data Collection** The data collection, described above, provided some interesting but not reliable patterns in the data. To increase the precision of our effect estimates, we decided to collect another 1500 person sample from the same source (data exclusion rules listed under Files). We will add these data to those already collected and run the same analyses as listed above. We will also report p-augmented for our statistical tests, given that the decision to collect more data was dependent on what we observed in the initial data (Sagarin, Ambler, & Lee 2014).
