Description: Gender detection tools are increasingly used in research to determine the gender of individuals based on their first and last names, for example to assess gender inequalities in academic medicine. We recently compared the performance of four gender detection tools, and showed that Gender API and NamSor were accurate. We aimed to assess whether the performance of ChatGPT could approach that of Gender API and NamSor.
