Wiki Version:
The attached files represent two versions of the Pang & Schultheiss (2005; J Personality Assessment) Picture Story Exercise. One is for computer-based administration using Millisecond Software's Inquisit, the other is for paper-and-pencil assessment. The Inquisit version contains two additional pictures (Bicycle Race, Girlfriends in Cafe with Male Approaching) that have been used in Schultheiss, Liening & Schad's (2008; J Research Personality) adaptation of the PSE. The Inquisit module can be easily modified to show only the original 6 picture cues described by Pang & Schultheiss (2005). While these instruments are separate from and do not contain any coding system to measure actual motivational content, they can be used to collect the picture stories such coding systems are used with. In combination with the PSECoder (http://www.psych2.phil.uni-erlangen.de/~oschult/humanlab/resources/resources_PSECoder.htm), the Inquisit version can make coding easier and even allows export of all PSE stories to separate text files for further analyses with, for instance, the Linguistic Inquiry and Word Count software and other text-analytical instruments.
