This project consists of four studies presented in Lee, Kranton, Conzo, & Huettel, “The hidden cost of humanization: Individuating information reduces prosocial behavior toward ingroup members”
Each study folder contains 1) materials used in the study, including preferences survey used to create groups, databases used for group matching, instructions given to participants, 2) datasets used for analyses, and 3) scripts used for analyses presented in the manuscript.
Programs used: excel, SPSS, SAS.
To use: download datasets and analysis scripts. Each script indicates the dataset used for analysis. Note: variable names that include the term “individuation” refer to the humanization conditions presented in the manuscript.
Documenting process:
For each study, data were collected in Eprime and copied from Edat files into excel. For studies 1-3, these trial-level data were converted into subject-level averages via pivot tables in excel (see XX_SX_data_calc_OSF.xlsx in the dataset folder for each study). Data were then transferred to SPSS for analyses (e.g. ANOVA, t-tests, etc). For study 4, the building of these trial level data into subject level data was performed in SAS (scripts included), and analyses were performed in SPSS. For all analysis scripts, the dataset used is documented at the top of the script. Additional calculations performed outside of SPSS (e.g. effect size, change in residual variance for similarity analyses) are documented in Excel (see analysis folders, where applicable).
