Description: The aim of the current study is to investigate the risk of mortality and loss of life-years in people with severe mental illness who developed subsequent physical health conditions, when compared with matched counterparts who had the same physical health condition but no recorded history of severe mental illness. We hypothesize that people with pre-existing severe mental illness will have increased risk of mortality as well as larger losses of life-years following the onset of physical health conditions than their matched counterparts.
