Description: Many psychological constructs of interest (loneliness, relationship quality, extraversion) are “fuzzy”, and ultimately, are social constructions. However, how social constructions relate to measurement models (how they should be measured, and if they’re measurable in the first place) is a big open question in psychometrics. In this manuscript, a novel philosophy of psychometrics framework will be discussed, one that distinguishes between measurement and indexing, how fuzzy social constructions can be handled, and other issues in ontology and causality.
