I will be available to reply to OSF comments during
Poster Session C (Saturday 12:10 – 2PM).
I'm also happy to chat via Zoom during this time, https://uchicago.zoom.us/my/ronai.
Hungarian subject-extracted (SRC) and object-extracted (ORC) relative clauses (RCs) both have flexible word order. In a self-paced reading experiment, online reaction time (RT) results showed an advantage for structures that have shorter verb-argument distances, irrespective of their frequency. This supports a Memory-based, rather than an Expectation-based account of RC processing. However, the offline comprehension accuracy results showed an SRC advantage only in subject-modifying RCs, supporting a
Thematic-account.
Please find below a brief video walkthrough of the poster, as well as the
transcript of that video.
