Wiki Version:
The CHITA (Catalog of Human *In Vitro* Translational Assays) Project is an open access registry of human cell-based assay platforms designed to promote human-based alternatives to animals for biomedical research. These alternatives, known as *in vitro* NAMs or Novel Alternative Methods, include 2D cultures, co-cultures, 3D, spheroids, organoids, and microphysiological systems or organ chips. The CHITA Project is focused on assays and platforms that have been standardized and are available to researchers through commercial service providers or core laboratories. The objective of the CHITA Project is to provide information on available human *in vitro* NAMs to assist drug developers and biomedical researchers in finding and gaining confidence in assays that reduce or replace animal testing. For this we plan to unify standardized assay metadata and characterization data sets in a user-friendly database portal, search, and visualization tool. The CHITA Project will be funded through government grants and collaborative projects with CROs, biopharma and consumer products companies, as well as animal welfare groups.
