Wiki Version:
In the present study, we will examine whether people’s representations of classes of objects in the world, are influenced by the language they speak. For example, in English, a sunflower is a type of flower, a bumblebee is closely related to bees, a goldfish is a type of fish and a blackbird is a type of bird. In what follows, we will refer to this as “lexical information”, that is, information regarding the meaning of a word that follows from the word itself, because the word is a combination of constituents of which at least one has a meaning in the language.
