Description: This project component focuses on (1) new speakers' patterns of language use, (2) the potential predictors of these patterns - and specifically (3) how traditional speakers' behaviour affects new speakers' language use. The project component aims to answer the following research questions - RQ1: What are the language use patterns of new speakers of Frisian? RQ2: How comfortable do new speakers feel using Frisian with traditional speakers as compared to fellow new speakers? RQ3: What variables correlate with new speakers’ frequency of using Frisian, thus constituting potential predictors? RQ4: What behaviour on the part of traditional speakers discourages new speakers from using Frisian? RQ5: What behaviour on the part of traditional speakers encourages new speakers to use Frisian? More information can be found in the document "New Speakers' Language Practices Paper - Background, RQs, Hypotheses, Data Analysis Plan" (in the Files section, below). The Files section also includes the LANS Questionnaire, which was used for data collection, and the R code used for data analysis. Moreover, the Files section contains the teaching materials that were developed based on the research results. The language promotion campaign that was developed based on the research results can be found here: https://praatmarfrysk.nl/foar-dy/nije-fryskpraters/
