Many languages have pairs of additive markers that exhibit a common morphological core: Italian *anche* vs *neanche*, Romanian *si* vs *nici*, Serbian *i* vs *ni*, Spanish *y* vs *ni*, etc.
In this poster we will focus on Romanian and do the following:
(i) Offer a uniform analysis that has both markers making the same underlying contribution, namely additivity.
(ii) Derive the negative polarity behavior of the negative particle nici as a result of the prefix ni, used elsewhere to create neg-words.
(iii) Derive the other uses of nici (scalar particle, neg-word particle).
We will conclude with a number of open questions and directions for future research.
