## Preregistering Research Plans ## What is preregistration, how can it help you, when is it most useful, and what tools are available to support it? This workshop will provide hands-on guidance in crafting and registering a research plan that editors and reviewers will find valuable in assessing your research (and that you will find useful in conducting it). **Bring a laptop.** ## Workshop Outline ## - Overview and introduction to preregistration (20 minutes) - [Pre-Registration: What & Why][1] - Adversarial Collaborations (45 minutes) - **[Read provided snippets][2]**, identify items that are ambiguous or that could be conducted in such a way that does not align with the original author's intent. - Share your findings with group, [compare with provided answers][3]. - Make your own preregistrations (30 minutes) - Peruse the [templates][4] - Draft your own responses. - Make specific analyses to match each specific hypothesis. - Check that the study design and proposed analyses align. - Operationalize each variable - Define data collection rules that are reproducible - Writing up results of preregistered work (10 minutes) ([worksheet][5]) (optional: slide 25 here: https://osf.io/2ysxa/) - Link to worksheet - Link to the prereg - Report results of all preregistered analyses - Any unregistered work is encouraged - Label as exploratory, preliminary, or in need of replication - Provide a "Transparent Changes" document - Panel Q&A (15 minutes) ## Further Reading and Materials ## - [COS Preregistration page][6] - [Templates][7] - [Example preregistrations][8] - [Ask for help!][9] - [Preregister now][10] [1]: https://osf.io/5sf9b/ [2]: https://osf.io/pr732/ [3]: https://osf.io/hxncj/ [4]: https://osf.io/zab38/wiki/home/ [5]: https://osf.io/3k7hf/ [6]: http://cos.io/prereg [7]: https://osf.io/zab38/wiki/home/ [8]: https://osf.io/e6auq/wiki/Example%20Preregistrations/ [9]: https://osf.io/e6auq/wiki/Preregistration%20Community%20Support/ [10]: http://osf.io/prereg
