Description: In this study, we explored for the first time whether 10-year-old children’s irony comprehension skills can be improved by teaching metapragmatic knowledge of irony in the classroom. We measured improvement by assessing irony comprehension of stories containing either ironic or literal target statements using a pre-post test design, and by employing eye-tracking to explore how the training affected efficiency of children’s processing of irony.
