Why do people have such difficulty seeing both sides of a controversial topic? We examined whether people’s trait levels of receptiveness to opposing views predict their “my-side bias,” or tendency to generate arguments consistent with their own viewpoint. We found a significant negative relationship between trait receptiveness and my-side bias.
