About Registered Reports

Registered Reports emphasize the importance of the research question and the quality of methodology by conducting peer review prior to data collection. High quality protocols are then provisionally accepted for publication if the authors follow through with the registered methodology. See cos.io/rr for more information.

About this project

Registered Reports Now! is a campaign to increase the number of journals accepting Registered Reports as a regular submission option. Barriers to adopting Registered Reports can include:

• Lack of knowledge about the format
• A presumption that there is no demand among researchers to pursue this format
• Misconceptions about the need or utility of the format

Researchers will either submit proposed research plans to editors and request that they be considered for publication regardless of outcome or simply use the materials on this page to advocate for adopting RRs regardless of whether or not they have a specific proposal ready to go. Through such requests, decision makers at journals will be able to judge demand and engage in a dialogue about the benefits of RRs.

Instructions

1. Make list of journals that you want to see offer
2. Check the Journal Responses page to see if each journal has already been publicly approached
3. If it hasn't, adapt template invitation letter
4. Assemble colleagues (early career researchers and faculty- as many as possible) & send a group letter to chief editor and senior editors. (You are free to add Chris Chambers, PhD, Professor, Head of Brain Stimulation, Cardiff University and David Mellor, PhD, Director of Policy Initiatives, Center for Open Science to any group letter)
5. Login to OSF and add the journal contact date and note as "under consideration" until you hear back from them here.
6. Repeat!
