Description: A central part of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is enhancing learners’ environmental knowledge. The present study investigates practice testing as evidence-based learning method to promote effective learning of environmental knowledge in ESD. Practice testing is one of the most frequently studied learning and instructing techniques. Our study aimed at investigating if retrieval practice does no only enhance the long-term retention of environmental knowledge, but also affects environmental attitudes and behaviors.
