Wiki Version:
The materials, methods, data, and analyses are available in public GitHub repositories linked through this project. A description of each of the components of this research is as follows: - **Telephone app.** The primary method used in this research consisting of the code used to create a web app for collecting vocal imitations, as well as additional experiments conducted using the imitations as materials, such as transcriptions of imitations and accuracy in matching imitations to seed sounds. - **Category learning experiment.** Materials for conducting the category learning experiment that tasked participants with learning novel labels (transcriptions of vocal imitations) for categories of environmental sounds. - **Measuring acoustic similarity.** Materials and methods for conducting analyses of acoustic similarity of the imitations. This repo includes methods for collecting behavioral measures (perceptions of acoustic similarity) as well as automated measures. - **Data.** Links to and instructions for all data sets, many of which can be installed as an R package. - **Analyses.** Contains a dynamic document used to submit this research as a manuscript to print journals.
