# Replication materials This repository contains the data and scripts required to replicate the results presented in "Telling a Different Story: A Longitudinal Investigation of News Diversity in Four Countries" # Overview of the Data directory The data directory contains all data necessary to run the scripts provided in the Scripts directory. - df_merged_[country]_sent_doc.Rds: Provides sentiment and word count metadata for articles - df_merged_[country]_simil_weighted.Rds: Provides aggregate-level similarity data at the level of newspaper pairs - Is generated by 01_data_processing.R ## Validation: Directory containing the data required for manual validation of the topic diversity measure used in the paper. Includes the original coding instructions, intercoder reliability data and the actual coding. # Overview of the Scripts directory The files in the Scripts directory can be used to replicate the results presented in the paper. They should be run in the order in which they are numbered. The SessionInfo.txt file provides an overview of the packages required to run the scripts. ## 01_data_processing.R: Uses the data provided in the [country].tar.gz files to generate newspaper-level comparisons by day. The output is used by 03_results.Rmd and 04_appendix.Rmd to conduct the actual analyses. ## 02_validation.Rmd: Generates a markdown file with the figures and tables presented in the validation section of the paper. ## 03_results.Rmd: Generates a markdown file with the figures and tables used to test the hypotheses and answer the research question. ## 04_appendix.Rmd: Generates a standalone pdf file with the contents of the appendix.
