Description: This report has been created by an international group of experts on evidence synthesis, the management of invasive species, and the ecology and management of Spartina species. It presents the results of a novel quantitative meta-analysis assessing the effectiveness of different management actions to control Spartina when invasive, focusing on both the effectiveness of reducing its abundance and the effect of management interventions on native plants and animals. The dataset used to conduct this analysis is currently the most comprehensive such dataset available on the effectiveness of Spartina management, consisting of 116 studies from eight different countries (mostly China). In addition to presenting the results of this novel meta-analysis, this report also provides details of case studies and personal experiences provided by experts in the management of Spartina. The authors and contributors to this report hope that it will aid in the design and implementation of an effective Spartina eradication programme along China’s east coast. Effects on abiotic outcomes have not been reviewed here.
