Wiki Version:
## Visual Gait Lab
#### STABLE VS LATEST - We recommend downloading the "stable" version `(v2.5.2)` for the majority of users. The "latest" version `(v2.6)` contains the most recent changes, and might not be as reliable. - Both of these installers can be downloaded from the files section: https://osf.io/2ydzn/files/ - Any other specific version can be found on the GitHub Page: https://github.com/Be-bo/VisualGaitLab - Please check the **Common Errors Wiki Page** or contact ghavasiehz@gmail.com if you encounter any bugs/issues. Thank you!
#### READ BEFORE INSTALLATION - The software is **provided as is**. It should be run on a workstation with **at least 8GB of VRAM** (dedicated GPU memory). **Otherwise**, on less powerful workstations, **reliability might suffer**. - For gait analysis, all of your videos need to have a ruler/distance reference visible within them (so that VGL's gait analysis can translate from pixels to cm).
#### TIPS - Regardless of what PC you are running VGL on, **we recommend going through the entire process** of importing a few dummy videos & labelling a few dummy frames (incorrectly is fine, as long a the label is placed somewhere), training for a few iterations (Eg. 10,000), and analyzing a video to see if VGL runs smoothly on your PC **before committing to a project**.
---
#### BACKGROUND Gait analysis forms a critical part of many lab workflows, ranging from those interested in preclinical neurological models to others who use locomotion as part of a standard battery of tests. Unfortunately, while paw detection is semi-automated, it becomes generally a time-consuming process with error corrections. Improvement in paw tracking would aid in better gait analysis performance and experience.
#### NEW METHOD Here we provide the executable for Visual Gait Lab (VGL), a high-level software with an intuitive, easy to use interface, that is built on DeepLabCut(TM). VGL is optimized to generate gait metrics and allows for quick manual error corrections. VGL comes with a single executable, streamlining setup on Windows systems. We demonstrate the use of VGL to analyze gait. VGL allows for gait analysis to be performed in a rapid, unbiased manner, with a set-up that can be easily performed by those without a background in computer programming.
