Description: Goal: Since the conceptualization by Hare in the 1990s, psychopathy research has flourished, but the question what causes psychopathy or psychopathic traits, has not been answered. Adverse childhood experiences seem to be an undeniable common risk factor for the development of antisocial behavior problems, but genetic factors likely play a role as well. In this project, we will focus on the possible role of childhood trauma in the aetiology of psychopathy. This systematic review and meta-analysis on the link between childhood trauma and psychopathy explores this hypothesis by examining peer-reviewed articles and grey literature, on prospective and retrospective clinical and community studies.
