People judge discrimination against women more harshly than discrimination against men – does statistical fairness discrimination explain why?

This OSF project contains the data and analysis files to replicate our results of the paper "The role of statistical fairness discrimination in judging discrimination against women and men" In this project, we investigate how the gender of the victim of discrimination affects people’s moral judgment about the discriminator. We further explore that what extent any effects are driven by statistical fairness discrimination, that is, people using gender as a signal to infer unobserved characteristics which matter for their judgment. We answer both questions using a survey which we ran in two samples. Our main sample is collected by Qualtrics and is representative of the US adult population on several dimension. Our replication sample consists of respondents recruited from Amazon Mechanical Turk.
