Description: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is a common disorder , affecting about more than 25% of the total population in the western countries and refers to accumulation of excess fat in the liver , in people with no or little alcohol consumption. Non alcoholic fatty liver disease represents an umbrella term which includes a wide spectrum of disorders ranging from simple steatosis , to steatohepatitis , liver cirrhosis , and even hepatocellular cancer. Silymarin is an extract of silybum marianum, milk thistle, a plant that since ancient years is well known to be beneficial in the treatment of liver diseases .Today there are a lot of studies in progress or completed, but almost no proven beneficial therapies for NAFLD. A number of RCTs about the impact of treatment with Silymarin in patients with NAFLD has recently been conducted. The objective of this study is to conduct a systematic review and meta-analysis concerning the impact of treatment with Silymarin in patients with NAFLD.
