# ESA recovery actions
Exploring recovery actions for ESA-listed species.
Recovery plans written for species listed under the US Endangered Species Act include the set of actions that the recovery team thinks are necessary to ensure the long-term conservation of the species (i.e., recover the species). The US Fish and Wildlife Service and National Marine Fisheries Service track recovery actions in the Recovery Online Activity Reporting system (ROAR).
## Recovery action data
**Date:** 2016-05-05
FWS provided a complete download of [the dataset](https://osf.io/c5j27/). We will update the data as time and resources allow.
## Shiny app
We created [this app](https://cci-dev.org/shiny/open/recovery_actions/) to explore the >30,000 actions that are detailed. There's more to do to flesh out the app, so feel free to follow the Contributing guidelines in the [git repo](https://github.com/jacob-ogre/recovery_actions) or [contact us](mailto:esa@defenders.org).
## Working papers
In addition to the app, we created two working papers with the same content but different styles. The first working paper, [viewable here](https://cci-dev.org/working_papers/recovery_actions_take_1.html), is a "flex dashboard" written using [Rmarkdown](http://rmarkdown.rstudio.com). The second working paper, [viewable here](https://cci-dev.org/working_papers/recovery_actions_take_2.html), is also written using Rmarkdown but with a Tufte-inspired theme.
