Description: We have categorized 10 visualization types to distinguish visualization designs and image characteristics. The resulting typology and image analysis may serve a number of purposes: to evaluate visualization techniques, to identify visualization design style, and to study the evolution of the community and its research output over time. In this study, we evaluate whether or not our visualization types can be used by others to categorize visualizations.
